This road can arguably be one of Napa’s best stretches of roadway to experience on two wheels. The area's rustic landscape can make a rider feel as if they are riding through portions of America’s Heartland, as they wind gently along the well maintained, well posted Lower Chiles Road.
This is an area caught in a vacuum of time when only ranchers, vintners and farmers occupied most of the region. Its unblemished innocence and picture perfect landscapes continue to be a chosen favorite for many artists, photographers and outdoor enthusiasts.
The beauty of Lower Chiles Road is no secret. On any given sunny day you will find many motorists enjoying this road with you. Depending on the season, Lake Berryessa is a huge attraction for many travelers with RV’s, campers, and trucks with boat trailers. Commercial trucks also travel on this road.
As with any other road in the area, be ready for some wildlife to cross the roadway. Often times, the unfortunate critters that did not make it to the other side, become road surface that can impede your traction.
The road can be enjoyed by riders of all levels. If you like country road riding, this is a gem. Cell phone use is strong in a few areas but spotty at best throughout most of the ride.
