RIDE SUMMARY

This road starts in Kellog which is on the CA-128 and goes up over the mountains over from Sonoma County to Lake County and turns into Western Mine Road as soon as you the county line.

Ida Clayton Road is a very steep winding road that takes you from an elevation of 500 feet to over 3,000 feet in under 8 miles. So as you may imagine the road is quite treacherous at some points and there are many blind corners.

This road is one to take your time while traveling on and enjoy the views from the high altitudes but be careful because it is dangerous if there is any moisture on the road.

When Ida Clayton Road does cross the county line it becomes Western Mine Road and immediately loses its paved surface and switches to a gravel / sand road for the remainder of the trip down the mountain.

Unless you are riding a dual purpose bike, I would say leave this one alone !
